I’ll be the first to admit, I was pretty nervous about putting my first ShieldSkin on my iPhone. Unlike your typical screen protector, ShieldSkins’ Entire Body Skin requires several steps to getting your phone protected. The scariest of this is that the skin must be sprayed with a solution, and you must let it dry on your iPhone for up to 24 hours.
Despite my apprehension, I was really excited to try this skin. I’d heard many raving fans, and I just had to see what all the fuss was about. When opening a ShieldSkin package, you will notice that the Full Body Skin comes with a small tube of spray solution, an applicator to get rid of air/solution bubbles, and 4 distinct skin pieces. There is a piece for the front of your phone, the back of your phone, the top of your phone, and the bottom of your phone. The bottom piece overlaps on the sides, so every angle of your phone is protected from scratches. There are also holes for all the main parts of your device so you can easily access them – the home button, volume, silence switch, power button, headphone jack, etc.
To apply the shield skin, you must turn off your phone. First, wash your hands. You cannot get the screen protector dirty, or else it will not look right. Then, spray your hands and the ShieldSkin with the solution. Your hands and the ShieldSkin should be lightly moist at all times. Then, slowly line the parts of the skin with the iPhone. Use the small square that the ShieldSkin came with to “scrape” out excess solution and air pockets.
You’re done! Now all you have to do is wait up to 24 hours for the ShieldSkin to dry, and your phone will be fully protected.
Upon turning my phone on after the waiting period, I suddenly realized the strong appeal of the ShieldSkin. Unlike every other screen protector I’ve ever used, there was no evidence that anything was on my iPhone unless you looked very closely. My iPhone was fully protected from scratches,and yet its appearance wasn’t even remotely altered. There were no bubbles of air or smudgy marks. It was just simply beautiful.
ShieldSkins are made from a highly protective plastic. In fact, the plastic was originally created by the military to protect helicopter blades from flying debris. If that doesn’t make you feel safe about having this protective skin on your iPhone, I don’t know what will. Throughout the week that I used my ShieldSkin, I actually just carried it in my purse without a case. I’m very impressed and relieved to say that it does not have a single scratch on any part of the device, despite this.
All in all, I’m really impressed with my ShieldSkin. I doubt I’ll take it off my phone for a long while. It makes me feel as though my phone is safe from every day scratches, and I really love that sense of security. I’d highly recommend ShieldSkin to anyone looking for an invisible way to protect their iPhone.
