iPhone App Review – QuizQuizQuiz

QuizQuizQuiz is the ultimate iPhone trivia game. If you love trivia-type games, it would be a complete mistake to pass up this great app. It contains all of the factors that you could possibly imagine for a general trivia application, and then some!

With over 100 categories and 4,000 questions in the first release alone, it’d be pretty rare to see a repeated category, much less question. QuizQuizQuiz takes this common trivia issue and brings it to the next level by providing a question-generating engine that doesn’t allow repeats. QuizQuizQuiz isn’t your standard trivia questions, either – I’ve seen catagories from “Popular Friends’ cameos” to “Summer Foods.”

There are basically 4 modes to play: Beat the Clock, QuizMaster, Challenge, and Passaround. In each, you can set your difficulty to either Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, Expert, or Mastermind. This allows you to really customize your playing experience. Be warned though – the longer you play successfully, the harder the questions become.

In the QuizMaster mode, you can set the subject to change every 1, 2, or 3 questions. You are then able to pick which subject to be tested on, based on 4 options. You are given 10 seconds for each question, and each question has 4 possible answers. You have only 3 lives; if you miss 3 questions, your game is over. You also have 3 lifelines to use – 50/50 (which takes away 2 of the 4 possible answers), a snowflake (which freezes your time so that you can think), and a white flag of surrender (which skips the question entirely).

In Beat the Clock, you answer as many questions correctly in a period of time that you can. You can play for anywhere from 30 seconds to 2 minutes at a time. You can also adjust the subject to change every 1, 2,or 3 questions. For each subject, you will be allowed to pick from 4 options. In Beat the Clock, there are no lifelines like in QuizMaster. You have unlimited lives, however, to answer as many questions as possible in that time frame.

The other 2 modes are multiplayer versions of the game. In Challenge, you can play one other person. You will each pick an avatar and play eachother. Both of you will recieve the same questions, and the first person to lose all three lives loses the game. In PassAround, you simply pass the phone around to the various players (2-5 players allowed). In this mode, everyone gets different questions. Each person has 3 lives, however, and you are out once you lose all 3 lives. The last person “standing” is the winner.

In each mode, you are assigned points based on correct answers and the speed of answering questions. Your high scores are tracked via Agon, so you can compare yourself to the rest of the world. There are also many achievements to collect, which is a really neat aspect for the trivia game.

Personally, I don’t even need achievements to make me come back to this game, however. The fact that there are thousands of questions, all of which never repeat, is reason enough for me. At the time of writing this review, I’d already recieved the achievement for answering over 500 questions. When you play as many iPhone games as I do,  that’s a heck of an achievement.I don’t think I’ll be putting away this game anytime soon.

Answer questions on things that you never knew you knew in several hundred different categories, covering (almost) every subject under the sun. And yes, all the categories mentioned on this page are real categories in QuizQuizQuiz: what will you choose?

HOW HARD DO YOU THINK YOU ARE? – QuizQuizQuiz lets you customise the difficulty level so that the questions are never too easy or too difficult. And with five difficulty levels from Beginner to Mastermind we’ve got everybody covered. And you might just find the questions getting a bit harder as you progress through the game…

TRIVIA A LA MODE – Want a quick trivia fix to pass a few minutes on the bus? Play “Beat the Clock” to see how many questions you can answer in a set time. If you get interrupted for any reason, just hit Resume Game to keep quizzing where you left off. To give you a hand you get lives and lifelines: 50/50, pass and freeze – so you can cheat by looking something up online. (Don’t worry, we won’t tell anyone.)

SHARE THE FUN – The game comes with multi-player modes so you can have a fun, relaxed game with friends. Or a ridiculously competitive match to the death, if that’s more your type of thing. “Challenge” mode allows you to compete against others on exactly the same questions, finally proving who is the smartest. Or try “Passaround” for a mixed bag of testers against your friends and see who runs out of lives first on subjects like Star Trek, Cheating & Controversy, The Big Lebowski, , and Muppets.
